My guess is your "watermark" is much lower in the layer stack so you're having trouble selecting it from your document.  Try selecting your "watermark" layer from the Layers panel. Then click on Type tool to edit.

If that still fails, move your "watermark" up to the top of your Layers panel. When you're done editing, move it back down to where it was originally.
